All change in the Nuclear Industry

I read Nathan’s note with interest.  He is of course right that Prospect, on behalf of its members, has a key role in these developments.  Prospect successfully argued for “Skills” to be included in the White Paper “Managing the Nuclear Legacy”.  Prospect helped draft the workforce sections of the Energy Act that was the vehicle for setting up the NDA, particularly those sections on terms and conditions, pensions and skills.  In our arguments in favour of a balanced energy policy we consistently argued that nuclear should be a part in any future Energy mix, including new Nuclear Build.  Our General Secretary Paul Noon has made these points at every opportunity including to the Prime Minister, Tony Blair.  In taking skills forward, we are playing an increasing role in COGENT the Sector Skills Council which covers Nuclear.  I serve as a Board member of COGENT, taking every opportunity to put the areas of members’ concern forward.  Prospect certainly recognises the issues Nathan raises.
