< < Go back to Creative & Cultural Skills Blog Archaeology Union Learning RepsAuthor: Kenneth Aitchison, Created 31/01/2006 16:43:33 Prospect, with the IFA and with some funding help from the Learning and Skills Council 's Trade Union Fund for the South East (TUFSE ) has started to run bespoke ULR training for archaeologists. The first tranche of would-be ULRs are going through this training at the moment - the first half of their training was earlier in January, and the second half will be in mid-February. This is a very important development. While previous ULR training had the advantage of bringing together people from different sectors, allowing trainees to appreciate problems facing colleagues they wouldn't often have contact with, having a group of archaeologists learning together brings extra benefits. The group has been able to discuss the learning agenda for the sector, and to discuss shared issues that they have encountered in their workplaces. The trainees are also learning about becoming NVQ Assessors, for the forthcoming (indeed - nearly upon us) NVQ in Archaeological Practice. This will use an innovative approach to Assessment, with evidence being produced and stored online by qualification candidates for their assessors to look at remotely. The TUFSE funding is seeking to support the recruitment of further ULRs in archaeology, and so more opportunities for training will be coming up later in the year. There are no comments as yet. |
