Public Sector Biotechnology Research

There seems to be little awareness among SEMTA officials of the contribution of public sector biotechnology research. Yet the Government’s Science and Innovation Framework clearly recognises that there are wider spin-offs – including commercially - from the science base. Perhaps we need to bring together our representatives to brief SEMTA staff and work out how to develop better links for the future?

I represent thousands of engineers who are Prospect members. Most of them work in the energy sector, though covering a wide range of engineering disciplines and skills. There are at least three Sector Skills Councils with an interest in this area – SEMTA, Cogent and Energy and Utility Skills. Can somebody please explain – in terms that will make sense to my members – how such overlapping responsibilities are being dealt with?
