go back to SEMTA Forum Steve Rowlands Posted at 26/01/2006 10:45:01 In preparation for its relicensing bid, due in April, SEMTA is reviewing its footprint. Given the strategic importance of science to the UK, my view is that we need a Sector Skills Council with overall responsibility for science skills. Do you agree? If so, please reply and state your scientific discipline as this will help to build the case for comprehensive coverage. I agree with you. We also need to join up what the Sector Skills Council is doing with other government policies on science and skills, for example the Chancellor's budget statements and the Leitch review of skills. At the very least, it seems to me that all SSCs with any scientific footprint should get together to address these issues. That's fine, but the Budget is all about science education. Important though that is, we won't attract people to study science unless they know they can get a job with decent pay and career prospects at the end of it.
