There seems to be little awareness among SEMTA officials of the contribution of public sector biotechnology research. Yet the Government’s Science and Innovation Framework clearly recognises that there are wider spin-offs – including commercially - from the science base. SEMTA’s Biosciences Sector Strategy Group (SSG) met for the first time on 3 October. It is chaired by Carolyn Mason of GlaxoSmithKline. Other industry representatives are from Celtic Pharma, the BioIndustry Association and the Association of British Pharmaceutical Industries.
